Lumpy’s Summer Tips 2008

Actually, this tip is always good, no matter what year it is.

Ok, it’s year number eight of the Bush economy and times are tough all over. I’m here to give you a tip or two to save some money and still have some fun.

Here’s an idea for a cheap night:

As of this writing (and I’m currently late for work) the Hill Cumorah Pageant (HCP) is in the middle of it’s summer run.  This is a free show that takes place in Palmyra every year. Having lived out that way, I can tell you the production values are incredible; it’s Hillbilly Broadway. And it’s free! But, it’s also controversial. There are a bunch of other “religious” groups pissed off that some other organization is cutting in on their action. These people stand out front and protest and hand out what is known as bible tracts, or as I call them, (and here’s tip number 1)  FREE ROLLING PAPERS! They are a little harsh with the ink and all but, hey, gas prices are through the roof!

But, you may ask, what about all that “god” stuff that’s actually in the show? Bring an Ipod! (Tip numero 2!) I suggest tuning out whats on stage and listening to Radiohead’s Kid A, or, the old standby, Dark Side of the Moon. (I’ve been listening to a band from Vancouver called Black Mountain; their new album In The Future is amazing and perfect for a night when someone gives you free rolling papers!)

So, sit back, spark up, turn up the volume on the ipod, and enjoy a free show!

-Lumpy

PS - I’m sure if you walk around that same hill in early September, you might actually find something to throw in those free papers!
